Day 14 - May 29th - Traveling to Prague day

Today we woke up early, finished packing, then headed to the train station to catch our 11:25 train to Prague, Czechoslovakia. We waited around there for about an hour for our train, and while we waited we tried to use up the rest of our Hungarian Forints; we were all even pooling the rest of our coins to see if they amounted to enough to buy anything. I got a pretty delicious pastry that I ate on the train, it was shaped like a cinnamon roll, but was rolled with chocolaty powder instead of cinnamon, then the top of it was dipped in chocolate. The train ride was seven hours long, but I didn’t mind. I slept a little, read a little, and talked to Heather, Kaitlyn, and Suzanne a bit. Kaitlyn is definitely the most adept at sleeping anywhere we go, the rest of us kept waking up every few minutes if we ever got to sleep. The scenery was beautiful, and made me a little homesick.

We got to Prague around seven, rode a tram and walked to our new apartment, went to the grocery store, walked to a restaurant for dinner, then walked home. Our new apartment has three bedrooms each containing two separate beds. Since the Thains are with us now, that leaves us one bed short, which was fixed by tucking a bed into an upstairs corner. This apartment rocked! It was beautiful, had a kitchen and two bathrooms, and was very comfortable and fun with all us girls in there together. Unfortunately, the bathroom doors don't lock, so a few of us walked in on Heather before we all got the memo of unlockable bathroom doors....

The grocery store is just around the block up a little hill, and it’s super cheap. I got two bananas, three apples, two nectarines, three carrots, a chocolate bar, a cup of yogurt, a yogurt drink, two rolls, a breadstick, and some cream cheese all for eight and a half dollars. It’s fantastic! I wish US grocery stores were that cheap! After we walked home and put away our food, we walked down the hill to a small, out-of-the-way restaurant that reminded me of an old Irish pub mixed with... I don't know what, something mountain-ish. Anyway, we were seated on sheepskin stools around a rough wooden table, in the middle of the main room was an open grill. For dinner you could choose the grill platter - basically a ton of whichever meat you choose. They even had live entertainment and people started dancing in the restaurant. The meal was really good, I got a chicken salad that was actually mostly composed of chicken on top of cucumbers and red, yellow, green and orange peppers. I ate it all and loved it, when I don’t usually like tons of vegetables. I think I'd felt a little vegetable-deprived.

The infamous meat platter - it looked so good

Then we headed back to our new home to our comfy beds.
